I was inspired by a conversation between Matt Gallowy and Scott Gallowy on a recent segment of The Current on #CBCListen that make me think how important it is to showcase real life examples of individuals who are proactively, often behind the scenes, redefining masculinity by supporting the progress their female partners have made in their careers and “stepping out of the way” as Scott Galloway puts it in the segment.
The conversation in the segment expands beyond redefining masculinity and the critical role it plays in supporting and raising the young male generation of today. But what it inspired me to do was look around and identify individuals in my network circle who consistently take this approach of recognizing and embracing the progress their female partners have made and supporting the notion that their partners are better at the money thing and stepping aside.
Stepping aside is one thing, but truly redefining masculinity is to embrace and own the role of equal partner within their household without reservation, shame or feeling of inferiority. Turning the spotlight on those that are exemplifying this redefined definition of masculinity is what I’m trying to capture in what I have purposefully referenced as “The Man Series”.
